Quarter Report - March 2022

General WisTech Open updates, as well as updates from each of their respective editors, for the fourth quarter can be found below. Note that the Open RN brand, textbooks, and related resources will all be maintained and sustained through WisTech Open. General Updates

  • 📈 Global Reach:
    Open RN e-books have achieved over 2.5 million page views by more than 910,000 international users.
  • 📘 Textbook Adoption:
    One or more Open RN textbooks have been adopted by 75% of Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) nursing programs and 20 nursing programs nationwide.
  • 📝 Positive Feedback:
    Open RN textbooks and virtual simulations continue to receive high survey ratings from both students and faculty.
  • 📚 Nursing Management and Professional Concepts:
    This book received excellent national reviewer feedback and has been adopted by several colleges. The e-book is scheduled for official publication in Pressbooks by April 2022, with an affordable print version available in bookstores by August 2022.
  • 🧠 Mental Health and Community Concepts:
    Development is nearing completion, with national review planned for the summer. Additional information regarding peer review will be emailed in May to those who registered on the Open RN website and indicated interest in being a reviewer.
  • 🏥 Nursing Assistant OER Textbook:
    Chippewa Valley Technical College was featured in a Department of Education FAQ document for creating a Nursing Assistant OER textbook using HEERF funding and Open RN processes. This textbook is anticipated to save WTCS students over $650,000 annually and will be ready for use in Fall 2022 courses.
  • 🎓 Professional Development:
    Open RN co-sponsored a webinar on “Code of Best Practices in Fair Use in OER” with representatives from American University Washington College of Law and plans to continue collaborating on additional professional development opportunities in this important area.
