Position Overview: Editors lead the development of assigned open textbooks, ensuring cohesive voice, structure, and clarity. They coordinate teams and guide the creation, review, and refinement of high-quality, openly licensed learning resources.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead the textbook development process and maintain a consistent tone, structure, and clarity throughout the project. Recruit and coordinate faculty workgroup members, content contributors, reviewers, and developers to ensure a collaborative and comprehensive approach. Organize and facilitate meetings with WTCS workgroups and advisory committees to gather input and guide progress. Incorporate revisions based on feedback from faculty, peer reviewers, and proofreaders to enhance the quality and accuracy of the content. Collaborate with librarians to address copyright, attribution, and citation requirements, and work with instructional designers to create engaging learning activities, course shells, and digital formats. Share textbook updates with state committees, faculty groups, and other relevant stakeholders to keep everyone informed. Pilot the resource in classrooms and gather student feedback to refine the material further. Participate in one to three meetings each month, depending on the scope of the project.
Qualifications: WTCS faculty, dean, or partner in a related discipline; OER 101 preferred
Compensation: $1,000 per competency (shared if co-editing)
Recognition: Front cover and preface credit
Meeting Participation: 1–3 meetings/month
Position Overview: Authors write textbook content aligned to WTCS curriculum, ensuring instructional integrity and accessibility. They work collaboratively with Editors and Designers to build engaging and accurate learning materials.
Key Responsibilities: Author content for assigned competencies or chapters. Align content with WTCS curriculum and templates. Collaborate on learning activities and assessments. Revise drafts based on feedback.
Qualifications: WTCS faculty or subject matter expert; OER 101 preferred
Compensation: $2,000 per authored competency (may vary)
Recognition: Preface and contributor section credit
Meeting Participation: As needed
Position Overview: Faculty Workgroup Members review and provide feedback on draft content to ensure clarity, alignment, and instructional quality.
Key Responsibilities: Review and provide feedback on textbook drafts. Participate in collaborative meetings. Support piloting and resource improvement.
Qualifications: WTCS faculty in the discipline; OER 101 preferred
Compensation: Varies by scope and funding
Recognition: Acknowledgments section credit
Meeting Participation: Workgroup meetings only
Position Overview: Chapter Reviewers offer detailed feedback on individual chapters, helping refine clarity, alignment, and instructional effectiveness.
Key Responsibilities: Review assigned chapters and provide structured feedback. Ensure accuracy, alignment, and clarity
Qualifications: WTCS faculty or content expert; OER 101 preferred
Compensation: $120 per chapter
Recognition: Acknowledgments section credit
Meeting Participation: Not required
Position Overview: Peer Reviewers conduct full reviews of draft textbooks to ensure consistency, quality, and readiness for publication.
Key Responsibilities: Evaluate overall structure, clarity, tone, and alignment. Identify content gaps and offer comprehensive feedback
Qualifications: WTCS faculty or experienced reviewer; OER 101 preferred
Compensation: $600 per full textbook review
Recognition: Acknowledgments section credit
Meeting Participation: Not required
Audiobook Developer Position Overview: Audiobook Developers ensure the quality and clarity of AI-generated textbook narration by reviewing for proper pronunciation, pacing, and tone. They also check that punctuation and phrasing reflect the written content accurately.
Key Responsibilities: Review AI-generated narration for accuracy and fluency. Ensure correct pronunciation, pacing, and tone. Check that spoken delivery reflects punctuation and meaning. Collaborate with Editors to address inconsistencies.
Qualifications: Experience with narration or audio review; familiarity with OER and educational content preferred
