Note that the Open RN brand, textbooks, and related resources will all be maintained and sustained through WisTech Open. General Updates

📖 Published Research:
“Adopting OER as an Equity Strategy” was published as an open access article in the September/October edition of Nursing Education Perspectives. The article shares student outcomes in WTCS nursing courses that have adopted Open RN OER textbooks. -
📘 Nursing Pharmacology, 2nd Edition:
The online version was released in August 2023, aligned with the 2023 NCLEX Test Plans. An affordable print version is currently being developed with XanEdu. -
🛠️ Nursing Skills, 2nd Edition:
Also released online in August 2023, with revisions aligned to the 2023 NCLEX Test Plans. The print version is in development with XanEdu. -
📘 Nursing Assistant:
Released in January 2023 using HEERF funding. A print version is available from XanEdu. A Student Workbook with over 120 H5P learning activities and virtual simulations was published in Canvas Commons. -
📘 Nursing Health Alterations:
Currently in development, aligned with a second-semester nursing course for both Practical Nursing and Associate Degree Nursing students. Peer review is anticipated in Spring 2024. -
📘 Medical Terminology, 2nd Edition:
Being developed with Department of Labor EduSTAT grant funding. The online version is anticipated for release by Summer 2024. -
💰 Additional Funding:
The Wisconsin Technical College System (WTCS) received an additional $3 million in state funding to create, adapt, and adopt OER across multiple disciplines. CVTC will use a portion to create a Nursing Health Promotion OER textbook, projected for online release by January 2025. -
🧠 NCLEX Next-Generation-Style Questions:
Added to all chapters of Nursing Pharmacology 2e, Nursing Skills 2e, and Nursing Mental Health & Community Concepts. NGN questions will continue to be added to the remaining Open RN textbooks in collaboration with LibreTexts and their ADAPT homework platform. -
🎬 Virtual Simulations:
Open RN Virtual Simulations continue to be created using generative AI to create engaging, authentic learning experiences with diverse patients and health care staff. These simulations are built in H5P and can be accessed via a hyperlink on any internet-connected device. -
🕶️ Virtual Reality Scenario Plans:
Scenario plans continue to be added, with a recent focus on OB. Open RN uses the Acadicus VR platform, but the scenario plans can be “remixed” and used in multiple types of simulation.
