Second Quarter Update – July 2024

April – June

The second quarter of the WisTech Open projects wrapped up last month with excellent progress. Below you will find general WisTech Open updates, as well as updates from each of their respective editors. The Open RN brand, textbooks, and related resources will all continue to be maintained through WisTech Open. To get involved or share a new project idea, visit www.cvtc.edu/WisTech.

General Updates

  • 📘 Innovative Business Mindset textbook added to WisTech Open, with a projected annual savings of $107,502 for 669 students.
  • 💊 Nursing Dosage Calculations added as a supplemental resource; formal release expected this fall.
  • 🧬 A statewide survey showed strong interest in custom Anatomy & Physiology resources—potentially saving students $2.3 million annually.
  • 🖨️ A printing partner is in the works to support long-term textbook availability.
  • 🔄 A WisTech Open sustainability plan is under development to support current and future initiatives.
  • 🎓 Team presented at the Effordability Summit at UW-Stout, highlighting WisTech Open and Open RN projects.
  • 🧠 Next Gen RN team demonstrated the use of AI to create case studies at the Effordability Summit.
  • 🩺 Open RN updates shared at the WTCS Nursing Faculty Summit on April 19th at NTC.
  • 📚 WTCS faculty continue to have access to the ADAPT platform and Casegen RN through June 30, 2025.
  • 🎬 Over 60 RN Recap videos and 9 interactive H5P case studies created using AI tools for Open RN’s Health Alterations textbook.
  • 📈 Over 14,000 student submissions logged through formative assessments linked in Open RN OER textbooks.
  • 📺 15 telehealth virtual simulations developed as part of the EduStat grant and embedded in the Health Alterations textbook.
  • 📣 Team is helping plan the Wisconsin Open Education Symposium and OER Action Planning events. Stay tuned!

Blueprint Reading

Initial chapters and exercises complete, covering fundamental print reading. Workgroup established. Submitted by Mark Lorier, Editor

Innovative Business Mindset

Content migrated to Pressbooks and peer-reviewed statewide. Finalization expected by August 2024. Submitted by Vince Mussehl, Project Director

Digital Literacy for Healthcare

Initial review complete; second review in progress. Fall release planned. Submitted by Brigitte Niedzwiecki, Editor

Early Childhood Education

Textbook outlines completed; chapter workgroups formed and writing in progress. Multimedia being developed. Submitted by Amanda Dohms, Editor

Outline complete, writing underway, more authors being recruited. Submitted by Dr. Suzanne Martens, Editor

Medical Terminology (2e)

700+ updates made, incorporating new NCLEX test plan and state curriculum. Finalization due mid-August. Submitted by Kim Ernstmeyer, Editor

Nursing Management and Professional Concepts (2e)

Active revisions in progress. New NGN-style case studies added. Release scheduled for mid-August 2024. Submitted by Liz Christman, Editor

Nursing Mental Health (2e)

No updates this quarter. Surveys and content updates planned for Fall 2024. Full second edition expected June 2025. Submitted by Kim Ernstmeyer, Editor

Respiratory Therapy

Initial content (Oxygen Admin & Life Support) written. Workgroup formed. H5P and chapter development ongoing. Submitted by Kirsten Holbrook, Editor
