Bio
Dr. Elaine Strachota earned her Doctorate degree in Urban Education from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, a Master’s degree in Administrative Leadership and Supervision in Education from the University of Wisconsin Milwaukee, and a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Wisconsin Madison.

She has extensive experience in the field of Occupational Therapy having worked in hospital, rehabilitation, outpatient and subacute settings. She has over 30 years of experience in Higher Education having recently retired as the program director for the Occupational Therapy Assistant program at Milwaukee Area Technical College.

Since retirement, she has returned to MATC part-time and teaches Medical Terminology. She also serves an OER faculty liaison assisting faculty with transitioning their courses to OER.

She has presented at both local and national conferences related to OT physical disabilities practice, online education, technology and open educational resources. Her research has focused on adult education, distance education, survey research, motor recovery and robotics post-stroke. She has co-authored/authored over 20 journal articles.

She contributed to and was a peer reviewer of the Open RN OER Medical Terminology first edition and was a developing author of the second edition. Her interest in Open Educational Resources (OER) is based on her belief that everyone should have access to education and OER facilitates equity, affordability, currency in content delivery and accessibility.
