Child Development explores the growth and development of children ages three through eight within the context of early childhood education. Topics include developmental domains, child development theories, health and physical development, social and emotional development, language and communication, approaches to learning, cognitive development, assessment, brain development, and the effects of trauma and toxic stress. Designed for future early childhood educators and childcare professionals, this book emphasizes developmentally appropriate practice, diversity and inclusion, family and cultural influences, and the use of research and assessment to better understand and support each child’s development.
