Bio
Kellea Ewen, MSN, RN, is a nursing educator, curriculum developer, and advocate for accessible nursing education. She currently serves as a nursing theory and clinical instructor at Lakeshore College, and has taught across all four semesters of both Associate Degree and Practical Nursing programs. Her work focuses on competency-based education, blended and virtual learning environments, and designing engaging learning experiences that prepare students for the evolving demands of healthcare.

Kellea is a published author and peer reviewer of four open educational resource (OER) nursing textbooks and a pioneer in the use of OER in the theory classroom. She was the first educator within the Wisconsin Technical College System to intentionally implement OER materials to reduce educational costs, saving each nursing student more than $200 per semester. Her work has contributed to the development of openly accessible learning resources that are used nationally and internationally by more than 60 colleges and universities, with over 130,000 page views from more than 64,000 visitors and adoption by over 1,200 institutions in more than 60 countries. These resources are published through the Wisconsin Technical College System and the WISELearn On Demand library.

As a curriculum leader, Kellea developed the Nursing Health Alterations curriculum utilized throughout the Wisconsin Technical College System and has critically appraised colleague-developed curriculum for Advanced Skills and Nursing Management courses. Her leadership in curriculum design reflects her commitment to high-quality, competency-based nursing education.

Kellea has consistently received exceptional educator effectiveness reviews and is known for mentoring both nursing students and faculty through a Wisconsin collegiate mentoring program. She also contributes to the healthcare community as a board member for Hospital Sisters Health System and has been selected multiple times as a featured speaker at nursing pinning ceremonies and state nursing conferences.

She earned her Master of Science in Nursing from the University of Phoenix and her Bachelor of Science from Winona State University. Prior to her work in higher education, Kellea practiced as a registered nurse in pediatric clinical care and served for many years as a school nurse in the Manitowoc Public School District, coordinating care for students with complex health needs.
